Vegetarians and the bible diet: pomegranates

Another one of the biblical super fruits that has become very popular is the pomegranate. It doesn’t take a vegetarian to appreciate its beneficence. The popularity of this strange fruit is not only its abundant supply of antioxidants, but the recent innovation of pomegranate growers in marketing the juice of the fruit.

Eating a pomegranate is not the easiest thing to do. The edible part of the fruit is the fleshy seeds inside the tough outer shell. It’s the sweet flesh that surrounds the seeds that is the delectable part. So you can pop a section of the fruit into your mouth and let the juicy part melt and then spit out the tiny seeds or just bite down on the seeds and enjoy the crunching. The seeds are quite edible, just slightly bitter. No matter which method you employ, eating a pomegranate is a bit messy and time consuming.

The innovation of commercially produced pomegranate juice has made consumption of it easy and enjoyable. The luscious taste of pomegranate juice should in no way make you forget its health benefits. Along with the other foods described in the Bible, pomegranates are packed full of vitamin C, pantothenic acid and potassium. Additionally, it is high in those antioxidant phenols.

Pomegranate juice kills the cavity causing bacteria in our mouths and in many studies, has proven to be effective in reducing the risk factors that cause cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. There are medical studies in progress evaluating the effects of pomegranate juice in treating diabetes, lymphoma, osteoarthritis and prostate cancer.
So drink your juice and praise the power of the pom.
