Truly Free with Ebates
by Sue Bozeman
Free is such a powerful word. It describes glorious absence from slavery; it embodies peace and the ability to do what one wishes, and in a wider sense, it describes 'not having to work to earn'. As for free stuff -- that is a concept that just appeals at a gut level.

Free is a trigger word. Advertisers know it. Combine free with home access to the internet and your trigger finger zips you off, zooming free as a bird from the comfort of your home, surfing to free sites wherever they blossom. Then here comes the bummer parental admonition: "There is NO free lunch" and life has pretty much borne out the truth of that statement, right?

Well, yes and no.

You can try the lottery for free money. It will cost you in a bit of real money for a chance at a big pot. Odds are slim, but we always hear the phrase, "Somebody has to win" and "You can't win if you don't try!"

There are other places for free stuff on the internet. Most places want something: your time, your credit card, your email address, ad infinitum.

We have found that there is one place, free to everyone, where you can win and never lose: Ebates. This is a nifty site that truly lets you have a check come in the mail every three months.

Most of us buy 'stuff' on the internet. I buy vitamins, shampoo and tea at a couple of web stores. I've done it for years and I always check to see if they are a client of Ebates.

"Are they safe?" There is nothing for you to worry about since Ebates doesn't take any personal information other than name, address, and email. Additionally, if you want them to slap your quarterly rebates directly into PayPal, you may choose to give them your PayPal address!

Ebates has negotiated for a piece of the profit that various companies make on sales made via the internet in exchange for Ebates' web advertising. We know them as referral commissions. Once Ebates has been paid, they share a percentage with the buyer.

"All buyers?" you may ask. No, they just pay those buyers who have used the Ebates portal to get to their prospective buying site. There are over 1,000 stores that you can buy from via the Ebates website. The percentage of your purchase price that Ebates will add to your account is shown to the right of the store name.

For instance:   Adidas Coupons & Cash Back           6%

And just because you have to sign in as a member on, say, www.VitaCost.com, it doesn't mean you can't get there through Ebates! All you do is click on the VitaCost Coupons & Cash Back link on the Ebates listing and it takes you right to the website. Then, you sign in just like you always did. The given percentage is added to your account and at the end of that calendar quarter, Ebates cuts you a check! YOU do nothing else.

"Like, what kind of stores are on the Ebates website?" Their stores include names like, Thrifty Car Rental, Staples, Jet Blue, VitaminShoppe, and even eBay!

Personally, I like cash, so I have requested my quarterly rebates be sent to my house. Mail box money is very nice and it sure beats junque mail!
