Nutritional Yeast for Vegans
A vegan product that should be a staple in any vegan or vegetarian household is Nutritional Yeast. Please notice that I'm talking about Nutritional Yeast, not Brewer's yeast or any other kind.

Nutritional Yeast has been deactivated so it won't cause intestinal problems, but has all the vitamins, minerals, essential and non-essential amino acids so important in maintaining a healthy body. This vegan product has all the B-complex vitamins that are usually lacking in a vegan and vegetarian diet.

Not only is Nutritional Yeast packed with the B-complex vitamins, it is also a source of protein and fiber. This vegan product is dairy free, gluten free and adds great flavor and nutrition to many vegan and vegetarian meals.

Nutritional Yeast can be found as a powder or flakes. Both kinds of this vegan product, I have found, can be used interchangeably in recipes. It has a delicious flavor, very close to that of cheese. Many vegans and vegetarians use Nutritional Yeast as a cheese substitute.

There is another vegan product made from yeast extracts that is a favorite of Australians called Vegemite. It is an excellent nutritive food and has all the vitamins and minerals of Nutritional Yeast. If you can eat it, it is one of the richest sources of the B vitamins.

You can use Nutritional Yeast in many ways. It really adds flavor to salads and soups. The flaked type of this vegan product can be used to top your favorite pizza. There are few vegan cheese products that work for pizza, but Nutritional Yeast flakes sprinkled over it, really make a tasty dish.
