Fruit Dip

It seems to me that a fruit dip, or dipping sauce for fruit, should complement and not overpower the fruits you plan to use. I, personally, prefer a dish of just plain old powdered sugar in which to dip pieces of fruit. Perhaps just plain powdered sugar seems too unimaginative, so I suppose that's why there are dozens of luscious mixtures you can whip up to serve with any combination of fruit you choose to serve.

Most fruit dip recipes begin with cream cheese. Cream cheese is not a problem to use in making a fruit dip if you are a vegetarian. But if you are a vegan, you will need to use a cream cheese substitute for your fruit dip.

First, let a block of cream cheese soften at room temperature. Then, to make a tasty fruit dip, blend in any of the following: ¼ cup of crushed pineapple, or ¼ cup of sugar and 1 T. of ginger, or mix with the cream cheese ¼ cup of chopped pecans and ¼ cup of sweetened coconut flakes.

Sour cream or yogurt can also be used to make a tangier fruit dip. A way to make a tasty and colorful fruit dip is to puree your choice of either frozen raspberries or frozen strawberries or frozen blueberries. Mix one cup of pureed berries with one cup of sour cream.

And of course, what could be better as a fruit dip than chocolate? Delicious concoctions for dipping fruit are available in grocery stores, almost anywhere. An all-time favorite is the caramel dip. Just cut apples into thin slices and dip away. I think dipping the apple slices into the caramel is better than having a caramel apple on a stick. I can get more caramel!

So, no matter which fruit dip you choose, you really can't go wrong if you have beautiful berries, cherries, pineapple chunks, apple and pear slices, whatever fruit is available, to grace your table.

When you are serving a fruit dip, don't forget to provide those colorful party-picks for spearing the fruit pieces.
