Orange Julius Recipe

It is a well-known fact that the original Orange Julius recipe is kept in a Swiss bank vault and the identity of the person who has the codes and keys to that vault is as top-secret as the identity of a CIA spook. Anyway, that's what I was told!

There are moments in our lives that we all vividly remember. No matter how long ago it was that something happened, we close our eyes and, just for a second or so, relive the moment. My first Orange Julius is one of those times. And I have often thought how great it would be to have the original Orange Julius recipe.

I have an Orange Julius recipe, or two, that I will share with you.  They are good, very good, but none are as good as the first Orange Julius I ever tasted. That little stand on May Avenue was torn down years ago and I can never be 11 years old again, on a summers day with the temperature over 100 degrees and take my first sip of that icy cold, frothy Orange Julius.

This is the Orange Julius recipe concocted years ago by me and by my girl friends:
1 cup of orange juice
¼ cup of sugar
2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
1 cup of crushed ice.
Put it all in the blender, at high speed, for just a few seconds.

I have learned that soymilk works very well, instead of the ice cream, in the making of an Orange Julius recipe. Add a tsp. of vanilla when using soymilk.

Another variation of the Orange Julius recipe is to use ½ c. of powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar.

No matter which variation you try, I guarantee you will never have to throw any away!
