Strawberry recipes

There are strawberry recipes to fit any occasion, whether for the family dinner or for the grandest and most elegant occasion. The strawberry is remarkably versatile.

Fresh strawberries and a bottle of champagne might not exactly fit the definition of strawberry recipes, but it certainly is a recipe for a romantic evening with that special person in your life.

Try romancing your palate with these strawberry recipes for Strawberry sherbet, Strawberry Charlotte and Creamy Strawberry Butter:

Strawberry Charlotte
Using a double boiler, make custard of one quart of milk, the yolks of six eggs and ¾ C. sugar. When the custard has cooled, add 1 tsp. vanilla and refrigerate.
Line a glass serving dish with slices of sponge cake or ladyfingers; cover the cake with slices of sweetened strawberries; then another layer of cake and strawberries.
Completely cover the strawberries and cake with the cold custard.
Strawberry recipes, like Strawberry Charlotte, can be topped with fresh strawberries and served. Or a meringue can be made from egg whites. If the Strawberry Charlotte is topped with meringue, you will need to slip the dessert under a broiler, or similar appliance, to brown the meringue in order to kill any bacteria. Or, drop mounds of meringue, using a spatula, onto a non-stick baking pan and brown. Top the Strawberry Charlotte with the baked mounds of meringue, along with whole strawberries.

Strawberry Sherbet
There are many strawberry recipes for sherbet, but this recipe is not difficult to make. The sherbet can be made without using a crank-style ice cream freezer. Just pour the sherbet mix into loaf pans and put in the freezer. It will take about three hours for the mixture to freeze, so take the mixture out and stir it well, about three times before it completely hardens.
This is one of the strawberry recipes that can be made with water instead of milk. The sherbet will lose smoothness and a bit of the sherbet taste when water is substituted.
Mix together two quarts of fresh, sliced strawberries and 2 C. sugar. Let the strawberries and sugar stand for about 1 ½ hours. Then puree in a blender. If the tiny strawberry seeds bother you, you will need to sieve the strawberry puree. To the puree add: 1 C. plus 6 T. milk (or water), 6 T. of orange juice and a dash of cinnamon. Mix well and pour into the pans for freezing.

Creamy Strawberry Butter
What a wonderful surprise for your family it will be, when you serve them hot waffles or pancakes with this fragrant and delicious spread. This is one of the strawberry recipes where butter alternatives can be used:
Mix together ¾ C. thawed and drained strawberries, 3 T. powdered sugar, 1 C. butter alternative in the blender until smooth. Keep refrigerated.
